John Errington graduated in 1973 from Glasgow University Veterinary Faculty.

After a short time in mixed practice, he purchased a small animal practice in North Shields, after modernisation it became registered as a Veterinary Hospital in 1980.

With an interest in ophthalmology, he passed the RCVS certificate in ophthalmology in 1984 becoming one of the first practitioners to do so. In 1998 he became employed at the Eye Veterinary Clinic in Herefordshire concentrating on ophthalmology whilst retaining a part-time interest at Ayres Veterinary Hospital.

In 2000, John moved back to North Shields and set up the Animal Eye Centre to concentrate solely on ophthalmology and in November 2008 the Animal Eye Centre moved to brand new premises within Croft Veterinary Hospital in Cramlington.
